Presidential Search September 2021 Update

The search for the next President of Texas State University is under way, with the expectation of a sole finalist being named by Chancellor Brian McCall and final approval by the Board of Regents in late Spring 2022.

Highlighted below are a few updates on the search process:

  • In early September, Texas State University System Board of Regents Chair Charlie Amato appointed a 19-member advisory committee, including representatives from the Texas State faculty, staff, student body, leadership, alumni, and community to assist in the search for the next president.
  • Russell Reynolds Associates, an executive search firm, will support the advisory search committee and lead the nomination process and national recruiting efforts. To help generate the highest quality applicant pool, the names of all candidates will be confidential and only the sole finalist will be named publicly.
  • To better understand the key attributes desired in the next president and to gather information on current and future institutional opportunities and challenges, a number of in-person and virtual feedback sessions are being scheduled by the search firm with various stakeholder groups (e.g., faculty senate, staff council, student government, deans, cabinet, various advisory boards, etc.) over the next several weeks.
  • In addition, a short online survey will be available to all members of the campus community in late September/early October 2021, as another way of gathering stakeholder feedback to inform the presidential profile and recruiting process.
  • The advisory search committee will likely meet for the first-time during mid-October 2021, and then will not meet again until the end of the recruiting process, which typically lasts eight to ten weeks.
  • A presidential search web site is being developed and should be available by late September to provide information and updates on the search process as they become available in the months ahead.

We are confident in our search process and our goal is to find the highest quality individual and leader to be the next president of Texas State University.
